Exmoor is truly unlike anywhere else in the British Isles. To walk through its wonderful, spectacular and varied scenery is to step back through so many periods of time and history that a week here is seldom long enough.
The scope for walking is virtually endless, and the area around the Doone Valley is no exception. Whether you're self-catering, camping or just visiting, Cloud Farm is the perfect base for exploring the miles of open moorland, hidden wooded valleys, streams, hills and villages which make up this part of Exmoor.
You can easily walk all day and not come across a road. We have visitors come back year after year who readily admit they've never walked the same routes twice. One thing everyone does come back for though is our Tea Shop at Cloud. Knowing that there's a welcome brew and snack available in a our walled riverside garden makes the walking so much more satisfying!
The wildlife is treat as well. Herons, dippers, buzzards, deer and, of course, Exmoor ponies all make the walking that much more enjoyable.
Not to mention the legends... The valley itself is home to the Lorna Doone romance. John Ridd's cottage, Badgworthy Water, the Water Slide, the ruins of the Doone's village and Oare Church are all there to be discovered.
If you want to venture further afield, the pages of the Exmoor Guide will whet your appetite, help you plan and show you why this area and its incredible coastline is the perfect holiday place for all.

To help you on your way, we are put together some illustrated pages of walks starting from Cloud Farm and Malmsmead. As usual, if you click on an image it will automatically open the full size picture in a new window. But be warned...even the best photos in the world fail to do justice to the beauty of Exmoor!
