Exmoor is truly unlike anywhere else in the British Isles, and is now officially designated as one of the last three remaining ‘tranquil areas’ of England. It is also one of the last undiscovered parts of Britain, and it’s unspoilt villages, moors, wooded valleys, coastlines, beaches and many attractions are all within easy reach of Cloud Farm. The whole area is great for individuals, families, couples, young and old alike, who are looking for somewhere different to explore.

The A39 coast road from Minehead to Lynton and Lynmouth is one of the most spectacular and beautiful drives in all England.

From Minehead the route takes you through the quaint village of Porlock, with it’s picturesque harbour at Porlock Weir, and then up the steepest hill in England to the top of Exmoor’s northern edge where the rolling moorland drops dramatically to the sea. The sweeping views from here and nearby Dunkery Beacon show Exmoor in all its beauty. Even in high summer it is uncrowded here, with acres of space in which to sit or walk and take in the green, purple and yellow patchwork moorland, the roaming sheep and ponies, and the buzzards soaring overhead.

Minehead Welcoming, unhurried, with a good beach, shops, amusements, and a steam railway!

Further on, Countisbury Hill, with it’s exhilarating cliffside walks, heralds the descent to the beautiful old twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth, joined by one of the last working cliff railways in England. Wander around Lynmouth’s craft and gift shops, enjoy a cream tea and then go and explore the delightful town of Lynton, perched on the clifftop above, and the spectacular streams which cascade down steep, wooded gorges from Watersmeet.

Countisbury
Where the hills of Exmoor meet the sea in the most dramatic coastline.
A half hour drive beyond Lynton, past the spectacular Valley of the Rocks and through the farmland and valleys of northwest Devon, lies a coastline of magnificent, unspoilt, sandy and shell-laden beaches, crowned by the blue flag resort of Woolacombe, still small, friendly, relaxed and uncommercialised, with a splendid three mile sandy beach and family amenities unlike any other in southern England. Surfing, sand, rockpools and tea - an unbeatable combination!

Woolacombe
One of the best beaches and seaside resorts in the country.

Further afield, there's the medieval town of Dunster with its spectacular hill-top castle, Dulverton, with its beautiful wooded gorges, old village centre and famous bridge over the river (alongside which is a lovely kids playground), and just to the west of it, Tarr Steps, where a stone causeway crosses the river.

The whole landscape of Exmoor and the many villages embedded in it, often hidden in steep wooded valleys, lends itself to relaxed exploration; the area is one of contrasts and there is more than enough for new discoveries on return visits.

Dunster
Rated the most scenic medieval village in England, complete with castle. A fabulous place for all to explore.

And then, when you've got to know the landscape, there are always Exmoor’s many other local attractions, from boat trips to adventure parks, aquariums, falconry and animal centres, arts and craft centres, pubs, and much more. A week here is seldom enough...
