Location

Despite its apparently remote location, Caffyns Farm is just off the main A39 and is very easy to reach.

Approaching from the East (M5 or A303/358):

Route 1 Quickest route for cars (NOT SUITABLE for caravans) This takes the A358 north west from Taunton (signposted Minehead). There are two ways to get onto this road; either go via junction 25 on the M5 and go through Taunton (this can be very busy at Bank Holidays and weekends, but easier at other times), or go off at junction 26 and come back up the A38 and A3605 to join the A358 at Staplegrove if you wish to avoid Taunton. Once on the A358, turn left at Cedar Falls just past Bishops Lydeard and take the B3224 to Wheddon Cross and Exford. From here, the B3223 takes you to Barbrook via Simonsbath and the steep hairpin at Hillsford Bridge. Once past Barbrook, follow the A39 (signposted to Barnstaple) for a mile until you come to Caffyns Cross fingerpost. Turn right here, continue straight on for half a mile (ignore the first turning on the right) and you will come to our private drive on the right. This is a wonderful drive as it takes you through the heart of the Exmoor National Park, over cattle grids, through pony and sheep-dotted moorland. This whole journey can take as little as 45 minutes, and even in busy times there is very little traffic and the road quality is far better than many A roads!

Route 2 Scenic route (again cars only!) Come off the M5 at Junction 27 and come on the A361 onto the Tiverton by-pass. Then turn up the A396 and follow this up the beautiful Exe valley, turning off onto the B3222 to Exbridge and then Dulverton (a lovely place but with very very narrow roads into and out of it). From here the B3223 takes you to Simonsbath and on to us as above.

Route 3. Caravan route You can leave at Junctions 23 or 24 and come onto the A39 via Bridgewater, Minehead, Porlock (either up the hill or via the less steep toll road) and Lynmouth. From here, the A39 climbs to Barbrook; this road is a little narrow in places, but coming this way avoids the steep hairpin bends at Hillsford Bridge. From Barbrook the A39 takes you to Caffyns Cross in afew minutes; directions from there, as above. It would normally take you an hour and a quarter to get to the Caffyns via this route. It is a straightforward drive, but it can easily get clogged up in Bridgewater, and the A39 can be very slow, so the drive can take alittle longer. With this in mind, caravan owners might also like to consider coming via Simonsbath as in routes 1 and 2 above, but taking the B3358 from Simonsbath to Blackmoor Gate, and coming down to Caffyns that way.
